Tim Wright just keeps getting more creative with each addition to his charming The Adventures of Toby Baxter series. He’s made his latest work of genius, EyeHeart RiverHome, to have the same familiar taste and feel as all the Toby Baxter books, but this one has a slightly different vein of excitement that makes it more than worth the read!
As 13-year-old Toby Baxter is now a little older, his feelings are, naturally a little more developed. So, it seems like the time is right to go on his next journey to RiverHome and embark on the adventure of L.O.V.E. He’s already mastered what it means to be wise, good, and a hero, but this love thing is completely new territory that he’s hesitant to explore. But like anyone with a huge crush, he’s anxious to know if the person he likes (a cute blonde named Rainie) feels the same way about him. But first, he’ll have to rescue her from the evil troll Plythar…if he can.
Tim Wright does something here that he hasn’t quite done in other RiverHome books. He expertly develops Toby in personality, maturity and character (if you remember the first book, Toby was a little more focused on superhero pajamas than pretty girls). Children’s authors so rarely take steps to develop their characters like this, so it’s very refreshing to read about Toby’s youthful progress. Tim Wright also writes with such great expertise, weaving in loads of artful elements that are perfectly captivating for children’s literature. With ogres, giants, literal love bugs, and more, there are so many interesting things to explore in the story’s pages.
If you like “The Princess Bride,” you’ll love this book. Exceptional writer and author, Tim Wright ties in several nods to the classic movie and Toby’s charming love story is just as entertaining! So don’t miss another exciting Toby Baxter adventure!
